I remember the day we found you
tied to that pick up truck
You were thin and your spirit was broken
and yet we couldn't believe our luck
There was just something about you
that words could not convey
and we knew that in our heart of hearts
you would be a champion someday
We knew that beneath that rough exterior
That winter coat , those eyes... so sad
Was a good looking horse with a heart of gold
That deserved a better life than he had.
We remember waking every morning
after many summers had come and gone
Slipping on our boots and heading to the barn
Past the wall of ribbons you had won
With many babies to your credit
After many years, we can honestly say
We never regretted bringing you home
That cold October day
You gave this family something
that most people never know
You taught us to appreciate the little things
To love each other, to live...to grow
You taught us that the love of a horse
was something to always treasure
Through good times and bad
to appreciate what we had
Because nothing lasts forever
We remember the day we said goodbye
Our spirit broken as yours had once been
To look at your face, to touch your mane
To know we would never see you again
We sent you to greener pastures
Free of pain with a life lived well
That wall of ribbons, A lock of your hair,
and a story or two to tell
Run free, my palomino,
Our beautiful boy, you will always have a place
A champion among champions in the pastures of heaven
in God's amazing grace
We will always remember
and we pray somehow you know
How very much we love you
